Quick Answers
Before you write to us
These four questions cover most of the messages we receive.
Yes — every course on this site is free, permanently. There is no fee, no trial period, no card and nothing to buy anywhere on this website. Elham is a non-profit institution funded by donors and volunteer teachers. Where an outside body charges an unavoidable examination fee, such as an official ICDL or IELTS test, we cover 50% of it through our scholarship.
Our courses are for Afghan girls and women, and for Afghan young people generally — particularly those who have been deprived of formal education, who want to learn a new skill, or who are trying to move forward in their studies or their working life. You do not need a diploma, a reference or any previous certificate to register.
No. Every video is compressed for slow networks and can be downloaded before you watch it, so you can study with the internet off. Most of our learners study on mobile data, and the site itself is built to load on a 3G connection.
Dari, Pashto and English. Each course page states its language of instruction. Many courses are recorded in more than one language, and technical terms are always given in English as well so you recognise them later.
